Eavor, Canada — Cosed-Loop Geothermal Energy Systems

Mission

Enable a clean, reliable, scalable, and affordable energy future by commercializing the world’s first truly scalable closed-loop geothermal energy system — delivering dispatchable heat and power with minimal environmental impact globally.

Context

Renewable energy sources such as solar and wind are critical to decarbonization but are intermittent — they don’t always produce electricity when demand is highest. Traditional geothermal systems can provide continuous baseload power, but they depend on rare geological conditions and often involve hydraulic stimulation (“fracking”) or fluid extraction that carry environmental risks and deployment limitations.

Eavor’s closed-loop geothermal technology overcomes these barriers. Rather than extracting fluids from subterranean reservoirs, Eavor circulates a benign working fluid within a sealed loop drilled into hot subsurface rock. This enables geothermal energy to be deployed virtually anywhere on Earth without fracking, water use, brine production, or aquifer contamination.

AI Asset

Eavor-Loop™ — Closed-Loop Geothermal System

Eavor’s flagship technology is the Eavor-Loop™, a form of Advanced Geothermal System (AGS) that:

  • Extracts heat by conduction from deep hot rock via a closed, sealed network of multilateral wells and circulation loops, rather than relying on natural aquifers or fracturing.

  • Circulates a proprietary working fluid through the loop where it naturally moves via thermosiphon effects, requiring minimal pumping energy.

  • Functions as a “subsurface radiator” to transfer heat to the surface, where it can be used for direct commercial heating or converted to electricity using standard power generation equipment.

  • Delivers continuous dispatchable power and heat — unlike variable renewables — making it suitable for baseload energy applications.

The core innovation lies in scalability and environmental safeguards: closed-loop design eliminates risks associated with fluid extraction, induced seismicity, and contamination typical of traditional geothermal and enhanced geothermal systems.

Proof

  • First Commercial Power Production: In December 2025, Eavor achieved first commercial electricity generation from its closed-loop system at the Geretsried project in Germany, feeding power into the grid and marking the first commercial deployment of its kind in the world.

  • $182 Million Capital Raise: Eavor secured $182M in financing led by OMV AG, with participation from bp Ventures, Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund, bp Ventures, Chubu Electric Power, BDC Capital, and others — signaling strong investor confidence and industry support.

  • Strategic Partnerships: A commercial agreement and investment from OMV AG positions Eavor for large-scale deployment across Austria, Romania, and Germany.

  • Ongoing Expansion Funding: The Canada Growth Fund committed up to C$138M to accelerate global commercialization and deployment of Eavor’s technology.

These achievements indicate real commercial milestones and industry backing — not early concept research.

Outcomes & Value Proposition

Eavor delivers measurable benefits for energy systems and stakeholders:

  • Baseload, Dispatchable Power: Unlike intermittent renewables, Eavor’s closed-loop geothermal provides 24/7 energy for power generation and heating.

  • Global Deployment Potential: Because the system does not rely on rare geological features or aquifers, it can be deployed in diverse regions worldwide, enhancing energy security and local autonomy.

  • Low Environmental Impact: Closed-loop design avoids fracking, water use, brine, and subsurface contamination, supporting sustainability goals.

  • Energy Cost Stability: Continuous baseload generation and scalable design can reduce reliance on fossil fuels and help stabilize energy costs over the long term.
